Have you put Covenant in your will?
History
Covenant Senior Day Program at St. Michael Lutheran Church in Portage evolved from the desire of congregational leaders to support a project that would involve the care of frail older adults. They believed that an adult day program could meet the need to help frail, older adults remain at home and out of a nursing care facility.
A task force began meeting in August 1994 and developed a program that would provide a caring environment for older adults dealing with Alzheimer’s and dementia disease in a social model program. A second important client would be their caregivers who needed a break from the constant care they were providing for a loved one.
Covenant was incorporated as a private non-profit, 501 (c) (3) organization in 1996 and is governed by a Board of Directors. The Portage site opened on October 6, 1996 and currently serves 48 participants with an average daily attendance of 17.
In June 2002, a second site was established in Richland as a part of Hope Full Community Center at the Richland Area Community Church. The program moved into the renovated Hope Full Community Center building on January 2, 2003. In March 2010 this site was consolidated with our Portage site.
St. Michael Lutheran Church provides space and utilities as an in-kind contribution to Covenant.
